Sic Parvis Magna: From small beginnings, great things come.
One of the most humbling things in life is coming face-to-face with your own abilities and limitations.
Today I made a game from start-to-finish and well, it’s not very good.
The game has bugs, physics issues and no tutorial (among a list of other things). It doesn’t even have a title! It’s some real amateur stuff. After 6-7 hours of maximum effort, I wish it was better.
But here’s the thing: I love it! Absolutely love it!
The game I made today is a pure, unbiased and honest assessment of my current game development skills. Nothing more and nothing less. The final work doesn’t lie. Instead it stares back and says, “This is the best you can do right now.”
Ultimately, whenever you reflect on completed work that disappoints you, the problem isn’t that you’re not skilled or talented enough. That will come with time and consistency.
The problem is you went into the gym expecting to lift 300lbs and discovered you can only lift ten.
